A single-tooth implant replaces one missing tooth by embedding a titanium post in the jawbone. Over 3 to 6 months, osseointegration will occur and the jawbone will grow around the implant. Once osseointegration is completed successfully, the implant and jawbone will fuse, forming an artificial tooth root that securely stabilizes the tooth restoration so it never moves.
This tooth root also transfers chewing forces to the jawbone to preserve the jawbone and prevent bone loss. After osseointegration, we will perform a second oral surgery to reopen the gums and attach the abutment. This will connect the implant to the restoration.
The restoration is a dental crown that is fabricated using impressions taken of your teeth at the beginning of the implant process. About 6 weeks after the placement of the abutment, we will attach the dental crown and you will have a fully functioning tooth that looks and feels natural.
All-On-Four implants stand for a full-arch restoration that is supported by just four dental implants. In the past, about 6 to 8 implants were needed per arch of teeth that were being replaced.
However, modern technology enables us to support a whole arch of teeth with very few implants by placing them strategically and at an angle. The two implants at the back of the mouth are placed at a 45-degree angle and in a region of the mouth with higher bone density. This enables us to support more teeth with fewer implants, making the procedure less invasive.
By placing the implants intentionally where there is higher bone density, we can place implants in patients who are suffering from bone loss.
Also known as an “overdenture”, an implant-supported denture is what it sounds like. A denture is securely held in place by a series of implants, which combines the advantages of dentures and dental implants in one prosthesis.
Dentures used to be the only option for treating severe tooth loss when patients were missing most of the teeth in their mouths. It restored their ability to chew, speak, and smile, but they came with a lot of problems.
Some of the biggest concerns were that they accelerated bone loss, moved around in the mouth, didn’t look as natural, were high maintenance, and didn’t last very long. Implant-supported dentures on the other hand never shift in your mouth, prevent bone loss, look and feel like natural teeth, are low maintenance, and the implants last for 25 years to a lifetime.
Don’t let missing teeth hold you back. If you’re missing teeth in Crystal City and want to improve your quality of life, a new set of implant-supported teeth is only a 13-minute drive away.
Dr. Kanbaragha will examine your teeth to assess the condition of your teeth, the severity of your tooth loss, and your bone density. This will help us determine if implants are right for you or if you need bone grafts.
To prevent pain sensation during the procedure, we will administer local anesthesia which numbs your mouth. We also offer dental sedation if you have dental anxiety.
An incision will be made into the gums to embed a titanium post into the jawbone. If you are receiving full-arch implants, a series of posts will be implanted.
After embedding the implant into the jawbone, you will need to wait for 3 to 6 months for the jawbone and implant to become integrated.
After successful osseointegration, we will reopen the gums to attach an abutment.
A restoration in the form of a crown, bridge, or denture will be fabricated out of impressions that we took of your teeth. This is attached to the abutment.
