Dental implants are an effective and long-lasting solution to replace missing teeth by supporting removable dental prostheses, or dentures.
Implants offer additional security and comfort as chewing force is transferred to the jaw instead of the gums.
Your dentures will be easier and more comfortable to wear, simply clicking into place on top of the implants without the need for dental adhesives. Contact your dentist in Arlington for a dentures consultation. We also proudly serve the areas of Crystal City and D.C.
The process begins with a consultation appointment with Dr. Rima Kanbaragha. She will examine the state of your teeth and take X-rays to determine your eligibility for implants. You must be in good oral health and have adequate jawbone support.
There are two oral surgeries involved. The first surgery will occur during your first appointment. After making an incision into your gums, your Arlington dentist will implant the titanium posts into your jaw bone and the gums will be sutured. This process is repeated for a series of implants around the jaw.
Then, we have to play the waiting game. Osseointegration is the process of the implants becoming fused with the jaw bone. However, this happens very slowly, over 3 to 6 months. We need to wait for this fusion to happen before the second oral surgery can be performed.
Once osseointegration has occurred, we will reopen your gums to expose the top of the implants. Collars or healing caps will be placed over the implants for 10-14 days and then they will be replaced with traditional abutments.
We’ll then take another impression of your mouth to send to the dental lab that fabricates your denture or dental bridge. At the last appointment, a metal bar is placed on the abutments and you will have a try-in with your dentures to see how they fit and feel.
It is normal for adjustments to be made a few times before they’re just right so take this opportunity to let us know if anything needs to be adjusted. Once no more adjustments need to be made, your official set of teeth will be secured in place.
Implant retained dentures will transform your life by filling gaps in your smile and restoring your ability to chew and speak clearly. This prosthesis combines the best aspects of dental implants with the best aspects of dentures for superior dental restoration.
While traditional dentures restore entire arches of teeth, they can’t prevent bone loss – only dental implants can do that. Your dentist in Arlington, VA, by securing your denture in place with a series of implants, can preserve the jawbone to prevent consequences like facial sagging.
Because implants fuse with the jawbone to form artificial tooth roots, you never have to worry about your denture slipping around in your mouth when you talk or eat. It’s securely held in place and will never move.
Best of all, dental implants are low maintenance and a lifelong solution. You can say goodbye to the days of irritated, sore gums from ill-fitting dentures. Dental implants feel and function just like real teeth.
Implant-retained dentures will make everyday tasks all that more convenient, whether it comes to eating, talking, oral hygiene, or even your sleep routine. Implants securely hold your denture in place so that it never shifts in the mouth and they’re made of sturdy, durable materials.
This enables you to eat a nearly restriction-free diet. Normal dentures require that you eliminate many hard and sticky foods from your diet and always have to worry about your dentures moving. With implant-retained dentures, you can eat most foods that you used to, but keep in mind that eating excessively hard foods can wear down your dentures sooner.
However, you will want to be sure that you thoroughly clean your dentures after you eat. Implant retained dentures are fully removable, which makes them simple and convenient to clean. You should brush them with a soft-bristle toothbrush and denture cleaning solution. We also recommend using a Waterpik to floss.
You should brush them in the morning, at night, and in between eating. When you’re ready to sleep, you will remove your dentures just like you would with traditional dentures and soak them overnight in a denture cleaning solution.
